If they want to improve the quality of scientific publications, rather than banning p-values or changing the 0.05 threshold, journals should make us show the data.

Want to boost power when controlling FDR by using more than just the p-value? We benchmarked several recent FDR methods to evaluate performance, applicability, consistency, and usability in computational biology. Here's our practical guide: biorxiv.org/content/early/…

New paper from Jennifer Westoby, Sjoberg Hererra, Ferguson-Smith & Martin Hemberg: benchmarking five isoform quantification packages for scRNA-seq data. In single cells, usually one or other isoform is expressed, not both genomebiology.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

The good statistical collaborator paradox: If you collaborate with a good statistician, you will appear less productive. The paradox comes from the fact that the statistician will often catch false discoveries before you publish them. The benefits will come in the long run.

To whom it may concern: you don’t need a PhD in statistics to engage with deep statistical concepts meaningfully. thebayesianandthefrequentist.com/2019/03/12/to-… @john_t_ormerod and I would have started a podcast, but we are both parents of young children. ;)

Our new preprint is out! We ask what the main obstacles to studying alternative splicing using scRNA-seq are. Answer: Dropouts and a lack of knowledge about isoform choice. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… @pavel_arte Martin Hemberg @AnneWBG

Hello Twitter! I've started a blog about structural inequality and policy in the UK. In my first post I talk about the PHE BAME report that came out last week, and why I am concerned that it is too vague: jenni-westoby.github.io/structural_ine…

Nearly 1 in 5 UK adults went without food for financial reasons in April 2020. Meanwhile, the richest 20% of UK households are estimated to have saved £23 billion over a 3 month lockdown. Read more here: jenni-westoby.github.io/structural_ine… #COVID19 #inequality

COVID-19: exposing and amplifying inequalities. In Northern Italy, in 1630, the plague was so devastating in its fatality that it reduced inequalities. Bad as COVID is, the pandemic and containment are increasing inequalities markedly. .jech.bmj.com/content/early/…

UK schools will re-open to all pupils in September. But is it safe? And what effect do school closures have on inequality? Read more here: jenni-westoby.github.io/structural_ine… #schoolsreopening #coronavirus
