My beef isn’t that the court is “political”; it’s that we don’t have a political culture that knows how to handle the court’s politics. I’m not sure what the right way to handle it is — the law/politics distinction is vexed, etc. — but this sure isn’t it. (2/2)

Learned more about the story of this photo and now I'm mad. This was taken today at Arlington National Cemetery. The grave belongs to Sgt Nicole Leeann Gee, USMC. She was among the 13 US service members killed in a suicide bombing during the Afghan withdrawal 3 yrs ago. 1/

It doesn't feel quite right but I wished to thank my Osgoode Hall Law School of York University community for securing me with tenure and a promotion to Associate Professor. osgoode.yorku.ca/news/dean-farr… I have been helped by many. And I have been inspired by the work, courage and spirit of so many. I thank them.

I do not care whether my views are classified with legal positivism, as they commonly are, or not. I believe that the classification of legal theories as legal positivist or non-legal positivist is unhelpful and liable to mislead. -- Joseph Raz

David Enoch giving his very engaging inaugural lecture as Professor of Philosophy of Law at Oxford - arguing against the “import” fallacy that philosophical positions can be directly incorporated into law.

Heard the very sad news that Bernard Manin has died. I never met him but his masterpiece Principles of Representative Government is one of those books I can clearly remember reading cover to cover and never being able to think the same way again

It is finally here! Eighty years ago, Felix Cohen crafted the "bible" of Federal Indian Law. I long dreamed of contributing to a rare revision. Today that dream is realized: 100 pages marrying constitutional law with Indian law (mostly structural, also rights), clarifying both.

I knew Christopher as a lovely thoughtful kind good-humored colleague when we were both at All Souls. Very sorry to hear this news.
