🚨Now out in Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency! Here, we argue that many risk factors for delinquency can be categorized as "harsh" or "unpredictable." Both can lead adolescents to perceive the future as less bright & controllable - and promote short-term mindsets, which are linked with delinquency.


For many behavioral scientists, nothing stings like study results with an unexpectedly small effect. My coauthors—Linnea Gandhi Benjamin Manning—and I explore the scientific practices and psychological tendencies that drive this phenomenon in our new paper in current directions
