It's the last day of #Candida2021 - I'm so happy to have been a part of it, and to have seen research from so many different labs around the world (from my own desk!) Props to the organisers, their hard work has made this all possible.

The first woman Provost in the 429 year history of Trinity College Dublin has been elected. I'm proud to have been able to cast my PG vote for Linda Doyle. Great things are coming!

I had my final six month review with my supervisors today (hopefully)! I find it helpful to take a look back at what you have done and to create a plan for the future. I'm feeling positive about the next few months of the PhD process!

I forgot I cleaned up my computer desktop last night.. I just opened my laptop and panicked. I forgot I put all my files in the Documents folder.. where they are supposed to be.

I've just been informed that an actual picture of me came up on the first results page when a friend googled my name... The majority still look like this though.

My cells look happy to see me :)

Attempts to cycle from Rathmines to Howth yesterday were foiled by the intense headwind on the coast. Abandoned ship with around 2 km left. (We did enjoy a stop for some nice coffee and views in Clontarf before things went downhill).

I'm excited to be presenting my work on the TLO gene family of Candida albicans at #iadr2021 this week. I'm taking part in the Hatton Competition, and you can check out my poster on Thursday (Senior Basic Science Category: IADR Hatton Competition II).

It only took 4 years, 3 months and a global pandemic.. but I submitted my thesis last night! Even storm Barra couldn’t stop me.

Great weekend spent CU Boulder 🦬 Mountain Research Station for GREEBS - so fun to hear about all the amazing ecology/evolutionary biology research in the Rocky Mountain region. And thanks to everyone who listened to me talk about our Suillus-heavy metal tolerance project!

We read this cool Mycobacterium tuberculosis article this week at our journal club. They used experimental evolution (for 2 years!!) and WGS to identify convergent adaptation in biofilm inducing conditions! Dr. Peter Flanagan check this one out elifesciences.org/articles/78454
