A driving assumption behind the admin's proposed restrictions on grants & aid seems to be that any use of "DEI" signals a political agenda that is antithetical to conducting good research. Let's unpack that. Why would DEI language be used in a grant?

Prior work argues employees benefit from passionate teammates because passion is contagious—it spreads easily from one employee to the next. In a new paper ASQ Journal, we find that's not quite the full story... 1/8 journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00…

Tonight I found out that the NSF math postdoctoral fellowship I applied for is being deleted because it does not comply with Trump’s executive orders on DEI in the federal government. I’m going to answer some FAQs and share some thoughts about this ordeal in this thread 1/n

New paper online! Despite a competitive world, we find children and adults view social resources like love and trust as renewable and non-zero-sum. Recognizing renewability reduces zero-sum belief, offering hope for a world where we can thrive together.😀journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/19…

Top 10 ways American Science can survive the 15% indirect cap: 1.Breed special transgenic mice that can run for days in tiny hamster wheel turbines to keep lights on 2.Get athletic program staff to donate 1% of their salaries to research thus raising 100 billion dollars a year.

Two common findings from sleep research are that 1) short sleep durations predict worse health outcomes, and 2) people from some cultures sleep much less than those from others. Do people from cultures with short sleep durations have worse health outcomes? 🧵

I'm fascinated by these 3 money beliefs: 1. "We must buy a house" 2. "We must pay for our kids' college" 3. "We must buy a bigger SUV & bigger house since we just had kids" What’s special about these specific beliefs is that they are (1) very costly and (2) totally unexamined.

Anthropic's CEO claims AI hallucinates less than humans. Bold statement. So I decided to test it by feeding the same FAKE theories to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini to see which one calls me out first. The results shocked me 🧵

Pro tip, folks: if you make a figure for a publication, don’t just hand the copyright over to the publisher. Post it on OSF first and then give yourself permission to use it in the first publication and then all future publications. That way, no permissions issues.
