Yesterday I was proud to join UFT in their fight for A FAIR CONTRACT for ALL NYC TEACHERS! Thank you to everyone who came out. Only together can unions stay strong!

State-certified apprenticeship programs exist for a reason: to teach New Yorkers a trade, but also to keep them safe on a job site. That’s why NYCEDC required them in its RFP for Willets Point. It must ensure its rules are followed in the project today.

I applaud Judge Lyle Frank's decision today to put a pause on the Medicare transition that was unfairly being pushed onto NYC retirees. It is only right that this case is heard in its ENTIRETY before any action that results in an unwanted change in health coverage is taken.

The city and NYC Health + Hospitals have spent over $2 BILLION on short-term travel nurse contracts instead of hiring & retaining staff nurses! We know the city can afford to settle a #FairContract with #PayParity now!

For far too long, we've undervalued our public sector nurses who care for our most vulnerable communities in New York City. That changes with this historic contract that respects NYC Health + Hospitals nurses and patients. Congratulations NYSNA!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Spectrum News NY1 Ruschell Boone's loved ones. Ruschell was a trailblazer in the field of journalism & had the unique talent of connecting with all around her. She has had a profound impact here in Queens and will be dearly missed. ny1.com/nyc/all-boroug…

Today marks a big milestone in #getting97done with Department of Buildings finalizing the second major rule package for implementation of LL97. I stay fully committed to 'Getting '97 Done' as we approach the Jan. 1 compliance period.

I stand in solidarity with the editorial team at the New York Daily News. Over 50 reporters took a stand with a 24-hour walkout, highlighting concerns about overtime cuts & prolonged contract negotiations. Journalists are essential & they deserve fair treatment. #JournalismMatters

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my predecessor and good friend, Morton “Morty” Povman. Morty was the "Mr. Rogers" of the Queens political scene. He had a very soft, welcoming demeanor and was beloved by all.

Chuck Schumer read straight from the Hamas playbook yesterday, proclaiming that he sees Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as an “obstacle to peace” in the country's war with Hamas, and said it was time for the country to hold new elections. Read my statement below.

Mayor Adams’ restorations in the Executive Budget represent just a fraction of the cuts he made to key programs. NYers deserve better. The city budget must invest in early childhood education, cultural institutions, libraries and more! council.nyc.gov/press/2024/05/…

Our public library systems are facing $58.3M in proposed budget cuts this year. If these cuts go through, it would be a devastating blow to library-goers in Queens, where so many families rely on our libraries, library programs and weekend service. #NoCutsToLibraries

The Mayor is endeavoring to use his fake Charter Revision Commission to keep NYC voters from voting on advice and consent powers, which is required by law. Read my statement re: Mayor Eric Adams declining to veto the advice and consent bill below -

Rather than decreasing the buffer, the state should INCREASE the buffer to ensure our communities do not become oversaturated with these drug dens. Reducing this buffer is reckless and dangerous, as one would expect from a "cannabis regulator." nypost.com/2024/08/06/us-…

The advice-and-consent process is an essential mechanism for ensuring a nominee has the qualifications for the role. Mayor Adams’ nomination of Randy Mastro significantly strayed from this established process. Read my op-ed in amNY Opinion amny.com/opinion/adams-…

Many of my constituents are learning for the first time that NYC Sanitation has just begun enforcing fines for not composting. That does not surprise me given the disastrous rollout of DSNY’s composting program. Read my full statement below:
