We heard about letting go of our need to be right, to listen carefully & with empathy to our opponent’s stories, to allow space for change, to feel anger without hurting others, not to try to change the past (through revenge) & dealing with accusations of betrayal BBfPeace

Last night, I spoke at Clonard Monastery with Pat Magee and was brilliantly interviewed by Steve Stockman. It was the launch of a year-long series of events in Northern Ireland, bringing compassion and shared humanity. I was so moved by the incredible response and insightful questions.

After our conversation, my heart is so full. The power of listening, acknowledging, and demonstrating empathy is more impactful than using force and control. I find always speaking in Belfast very healing and transformational.

On my way to Belfast for a day with CRJI Central to mark and promote Restorative Justice. Such a privilege to be contributing during #RJweek #empathy

Driven from airport by colleague who shared his story from being a teenager and affected by British army, to joining the IRA, and also post prison the horrific traumatic experiences he saw as a restorative peace maker. Everyone deserves to be heard, everyone has a story #RJweek

Exceptional inspirational morning with young people in Lurgen, who asked me such deep thoughtful questions. Then they worked on their vision for a more just peaceful world, sharing their ideas with such wisdom and intelligence. Thank you CRJI Central for inviting me. #RJweek

I was blessed to be invited to dine with extraordinary peacebuilders in Belfast. The conversation was insightful and deep, it's always a privilege to hear stories of people growing up in the conflict. Also inspiring to hear of their impactful youth work. Thanks for including me.

Thanks for an extraordinary workshop with peace builders and youth workers from many organisations. I loved how deep we went in looking how we can listen to our 'other' and ending with everyone making an Empathy Pledge. #empathy #hope

Such a privilege to have been there and Dan Jarvis MP listened so well to 20 people affected by terrorism. He had empathy & showed care, and his plan of action will benefit all future and past people affected by terrorism. Grateful to work with Survivors Against Terror, so inspirational

Last night I spoke with young people in new Lodge, Belfast, the youth centre was filled with activity and yet in the room I was in, they listened and really heard my words. They responded with such depth and gratitude that I was there. My heart was very touched, such a privilege

Such moving feedback, Youth Worker said do you know that young person never speaks up and we were shocked Young person said “ the workshop was amazing and the reason why I opened up was because I could relate to Jo and I just felt it was safe to speak up” This is why I do my work

I am thrilled to be speaking with Pat Magee on Friday the 16th of May in London. Still tickets left, I will talk about what happens when we demonise people, that’s how Pat could kill my Dad. Seeing humanity in others stops hatred and brings compassion. eventbrite.ie/e/jo-berry-and…

Absolutely delighted to see Jo Berry - one of the co-founders of Survivors Against Terror - get a CBE. Jo has dedicated her life to peace & reconciliation after her dad was killed by the IRA- this award is hugely deserved. brightonandhovenews.org/2025/06/13/dau…

I am very excited and honoured to receive a CBE today, for my services to peace and reconciliation. It’s for everyone who believes empathy and dialogue can heal even the deepest divides. I'm also thinking of everyone affected by war and violent conflict. #CBE #Empathy #Peace
