Recent research showed that human gut microbiota complexity isn't fully captured by fecal samples. In contrast, we found that the honeybee microbiota can be precisely analyzed via fecal sampling, with all gut members able to recolonize after fecal transplant!

We recently found that host maturation could have been a confounder in previous bee microbiota studies. We struggled to publish these 'negative' results. So it is wonderful to see this commentary on the relevance of our work by Kasie Raymann & Waldan Kwong journals.asm.org/doi/10.1128/mb…
