Understanding the amazing biodiversity in LSMPAs is key...especially when threatened by illegal fisheries. New paper by Joanna L. Harris out today documents sicklefin (Mobula tarapacana) and bentfin (Mobula thurstoni) devil rays in the Chagos Archipelago Manta Trust ZSLMarine

π’ NEW SCIENCE ALERT! Egmont Atoll is a unique and essential habitat for reef manta rays in the Chagos Archipelago, which is now designated as an IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group Important Shark and Ray Area (ISRA) thanks to this research π bit.ly/3SwNM2d

Itβs an absolute honour to share the progress I have made in #mobulid conservation with the Chagos Manta Ray Project over the last four years Manta Trust π

Marine Scientist Joanna L. Harris (University of Plymouth & Manta Trust) studies the Manta Rays of the Chagos Archipelago. She recently published a paper confirming the presence of three different endangered devil rays (sicklefin, bentfin & spinetail) in the Chagos Archipelago.
