What's happening to Dunlin? Red-listed in UK ** and now numbers dropping in Portugal. Latest #WaderTales blog about JoaoRBelo paper: wadertales.wordpress.com/2023/02/14/why… ** Dunlin is one of 11 red-listed #waders #shorebirds in the UK wadertales.wordpress.com/2022/10/04/uk-… #ornithology

Out now in Waterbirds Journal: 10 years of monitoring of high-tide roosts show declines in wading bird species in an important Portuguese estuary #waterbirds #ornithology bioone.org/journals/water… 📸: Luiz Lapa

Great to see Josh Nightingale | Global Wader #PhD #research making a real impact! Placing an int airport at the heart of the major #wetland in PT, with airplanes overflying the protected area cannot be a good idea if we are serious about #biodiversity #conservation! UAResearch Azul

Different ways, different countries but same destination: Iceland! Our 5 Black-tailed Godwits caught in #Tagus Estuary are now in the breeding areas. Huge thanks again to Wader Study and Global Messenger for these tags and to Eco Flyway for all the hard work to capture these birds.

Godwits are NOT BORN WITH a route & a timetable. Very happy with online publication in Current Biology of our young #godwit translocation paper: authors.elsevier.com/a/1hA943QW8S2Q… Developmental factors, i.e. #information, assembled after they have fledged, shape the individual #migrations.

Attention #EOU2023 students! If you have completed a dissertation/thesis (at any level, undergrad to PhD) on waders/shorebirds, Wader Study journal would love to share your abstract with the community. Hit me up if you're interested, or have questions!

Boy was i right! Fantastic show RTP1 RTP placing our #wader #research in #Iceland & across the flyway at the forefront of prime time national tv. Featuring JoaoRBelo, Camilo Carneiro & Afonso Rocha Link here in case u've missed it rtp.pt/play/p11145/e7… #biodiversity

Today is the Wetland Bird Survey January Priority Core Count! ❄️❄️❄️ Portuguese counters remind us that #waders that travel further south find much warmer conditions! Roost counts in Portugal: wadertales.wordpress.com/2023/02/14/why… Easy life for Portuguese Black-tailed Godwits: wadertales.wordpress.com/2016/11/18/ove…

Colaborative discussions continue between Eco Flyway and Global Flyway Network teams, spanning from estuarine #benthos, #spoonbill habitat use + #movement #ecology & #data #culture on (#wader) #tracking. But also not all is work! #biodiversity #conservation #migration #ornithology
