My wife Anne and I feel let down by the former Minister for Health who was so against the normalisation and advertising of alcohol products. Taoiseach ,you would be better suited to finishing off what you once believed in,PHAA .A job half done is a job not finished.

Cancer warnings are very necessary but also warnings regarding Alcohol being a contributing factor in 50 per cent of suicide plus the fact that a person is 8 times more likely to die by suicide if they are binge drinking.

Sometimes I wonder do some Ministerial positions hold more power than others . When you see Finance dismissing already agreed Public Health measures .Its an absolute disgrace.

Coming from a man who as Minister for Health thanked my wife and I for our support of The Public Health Alcohol Bill.we feel betrayed by your meaningless words.something once so important to you is now deemed by you to be a hinderance to the Alcohol Industry .

Happy to see The Sunday Independent published my letter .Hope the right people see it and it has the desired effect.

Listening to the Alcohol Industry over the past week and their objections to the labelling and their absolute belief that it will not work has me confused. If it will not work then why are they so opposed to it , logically they should be saying nothing and clapping their hands .

The horrific abuse in some nursing homes highlighted by RTE undercover reporters leaves me in no doubt but that we need permanent HSE staff whose sole purpose is to ensure that our elderly citizens are not abused or neglected while entrusted into the care of others .

Delighted to share todays letters page in The Irish Times with Prof FRANK MURRAY, a man who has worked at the coal face of alcohol harm.

And then the Alcohol Industry say "JUMP" and you do just that.

Still can't believe that this was allowed to happen.

I hope our Government's decision maker's read this letter.

I think that this says everything that has to be said. Shame on our legislators , we know now where they stand and it's not with the health of the citizens of our country young and old.
