Less “drills” (You must do this, you must do that) more situational/small sided games (reads) - “If this happens, you do this. If that happens, you do this” - live defense switches up options and makes offense PLAY basketball

Raining & can't go fishing. So b/c I'm a nerd I'm going to make a thread of games I like to build off common drills that coaches use to build up/level up practice. And because this is Twitter - it's NOT anti-drill, but just more game like ways to accomplish the same thing.

John Carrier Anyone who speaks in absolutes about the "right way" & the "wrong way" to teach anything in the game of basketball is someone I'd be wary of listening to, this being exhibit A. There is a long list of hall of fame coaches who masterfully used shell to build top rated defenses.

Coaches often are concerned about cuts disrupting spacing or congesting the paint. All year, we said we'd rather have too many cutters than four guys standing at the 3-pt line. Once cutting is the habit, we can refine who & when to maximize spacing.
