It’s currently 11:05 pm on a perfect cool summer night in Inuvik, not far south of the Arctic Ocean, and I am in my hotel room thoroughly enjoying the joyous sounds of people playing baseball on an unlit field. Summers in the North are simply spectacular.

Dear iOS 26 Feedback and Apple Support. Are you aware of the issue with the latest iOS, which marks podcasts as played even when not played? I’m seeing lots of complaints about this bug. Hope it can be fixed in the next update.

Canada lost a historic figure today. Murray Sinclair, among other things the Chief Commissioner of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, has died. I join with others who are wishing his spirit a safe journey home. Miigwech, Senator Sinclair. cbc.ca/news/politics/…

Twitter/X used to be really engaging, and I made a lot of actual friends here. Everyone I follow seems to have disappeared from the platform. I rarely post anything myself. I get constant notifications re posts from people I don't follow. Where is everyone now - BlueSky?

As a follow-up to my previous post, I just joined BlueSky as johnhalecrimlaw.bsky.social. Follow me there and I'll follow back if I know you.

What Canada Post workers don't seem to accept is that they work for a corporation that is operating at a deficit, given the alternatives to mail, and which cannot afford their demands. Sadly remote communities that DO rely on Canada Post are being hit really hard.

Dear WestJet. I am REALLY CLOSE to reaching the platinum reward level, but have no plans to fly between now and December 31. Is there any other way to get reward points to get me to the next level, other than by flying?

I'm watching Donald Trump's post-inauguration "speech" in the Emancipation Hall. If this rambling diatribe is any indication of what to expect in the next 4 years, things are going to be worse than we could have possibly imagined. He is an angry, vengeful narcissist.

Anybody who thinks that Trump's punitive tariffs against Canada are about fentanyl or illegal immigration needs to give their head a shake. This is just his excuse for using emergency powers to do something that is otherwise illegal. He just sees Canada as prime real estate.

Does anybody else find it jarring that Elon Musk refers, without any sense of irony at all, to the federal bureaucracy being “an unelected fourth branch of government”?

I was reviewing disclosure in a drug trafficking case yesterday. Much of it was communications between drug dealers and customers on Signal. If it's good enough for keeping your crack deals secret, it's good enough for highly sensitive national security discussions.

If anybody thinks that SURVIVOR must, in its 48th season, be past its prime, watch last night’s episode. Not only the most moving episode of this series, but the best thing I’ve seen on Tv in the last year.

Next time I represent somebody on a DUI, I’ll take a page from the Trump playbook and raise the following defences; (1) the cop was on a witch hunt, and (2) nobody got hurt, so what’s the problem?

Observations about the first 1/2-hour of #Debate2025. Yves-F. Blanchet 🎗⚜️ doesn't belong in a federal debate. Period. Jagmeet Singh doers not impress with his constant interruptions. Pierre Poilievre is predictable: canned slogans with forced smiles. Mark Carney is a calm leader.

John Hale (@johnhalecrimlaw) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I am impressed that Mark Carney did not sink to the level of the Conservatives when it comes to the Charter. He gave a principled answer in support of the Charter and in favour of constitutional rights applying to everybody, including accused persons. How refreshing.
