“As of Thursday morning, FEMA had about half as many staff members trained to respond to disasters as it did at this point last year.” Yet another reason hurricane season 2025 has a greater chance of being the most tragic in memory. nytimes.com/2025/05/08/us/…

South Florida: an exceptional pass of the Int'l Space Station begins this evening Friday May 9 at 8:44 PM. Clouds permitting, look southwest above the horizon then watch it cross overhead. Entire event lasts over 6 minutes. I will tweet out a 5-minute warning this evening.

Everything is great. Just great. “The training cutbacks could leave storm-prone communities less prepared to handle the often devastating aftermath of hurricanes.” reuters.com/business/envir…

Flood Watch just posted for South Florida. Y’all know what happens here when it rains that much—regardless of the antecedent drought.

The sum of all fears: “somewhere down the line there will probably be a big forecast failure. A storm goes somewhere that it wasn’t expected to go or intensifies much more rapidly than it was expected to and because of that uncertainly.” local10.com/weather/hurric…

These started again today. No one knows who will be impacted by a hurricane in 2025. But I know one thing. It's going to be a season like no other. The mix of degraded research, observations and forecasts with this era's propensity for more intense hurricanes could be incendiary.

Why is it so hot, so soon, you say? It should come as no surprise that climate change is playing a role. The Climate Central CSI shows that this week's heat in #Florida, #Bahamas, and #Cuba is made at least 5 times more likely due to global heating.

Haven’t posted on #Marlins baseball in ages. But it defies logic for the manager to pull starter Ryan Weathers after 80 pitches. He threw 76 last time out against these same Cubs over 5 in. Could have let him start the 6th even if 2, 3, 4 pocket was up. Bullpen blew up. Big fat L
