Ana Navarro: "I know a lot of Republicans. I know a lot of Democrats. They're cut from different cloths. Democrats simply don't have the cold-heartedness necessary to see people suffering." Scott Jennings: "They voted repeatedly to do it…"

The government needs to stand up for a truly independent BBC free from political meddling. That means sacking Robbie Gibb and ending the political grip on the BBC board.

One traditional criticism of public broadcasting is that it enjoys an advantage over competitors b/c it has an implicit public subsidy. We ignore that in return for its impartiality. That would be impossible if the BBC were to claim justification for lying on political grounds.

Conrad Black's analysis of who holds the cards in a Trump v. Putin game of Ukraine Poker from six weeks ago looks more plausible. But the game's still open. If Putin presses his advance, will Trump allow Tomahawks? Or will fear of escalation doom Ukraine? shorturl.at/GawlG

Andrew, Gibb is also trying to protect the BBC from the legal and financial consequences of its folly. If this rhetoric from failed corporate mandarins about fighting for the BBC's journalism means anything, it means inviting a mass fine where a modest one is available.

It's not important at all; it's irrelevant. He was revealing that the BBC had already found a serious editorial error--the falsification of a Trump speech. No folly of Trump justifies that. It evven t raises the question: what else has the BBC falsified? Ditto the Left's outrage.

Not only have most educated people heard of Leopold, but his crimes have filled newspapers, magazines, books, and government reports. Stalin killed more than either man--he was defended by left-wing journalists and historians for thirty years before it became openly scandalous.

John O'Sullivan (@johnosullivannr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Why do people post such plainly daft tweets? Farage's account--saying that Trump hoped for more than the BBC's falsified report from an ally--was what any US president would say in such circumstances. He might well have added " . . . and from an impartial & accurate news source."

Not satisfied with dismissing one of the few BBC executives who wanted the BBC to remedy a serious editorial scandal & to defend it against a ruinous libel suit, the Left now wants to jail him for it too. Social psychologists: tell me again left-wing authoritarianism can't exist.

Of course, Davey's stupid and cruel behaviour in the postmasters' case has no relevance to his foolish grandstanding in defence of lying in the BBC case. But by the standards of debate employed by Davey himself in a long & undistinguished career, it's very allowable.

John O'Sullivan (@johnosullivannr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The people doing that are those who chant "defend our journalism" and challenge Trump to see them in court. It's harder for a public figure to win a libel case in the US than in the UK but falsely editing a news report to convict him of incitement over-fulfills the test.

John O'Sullivan (@johnosullivannr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Oh, so the BBC (or the NHS directly?) will create false documents seeming to show Trump's planned (illegal?) NHS takeover in order to invite a libel suit from Trump that would foster a national left-wing backlash against, er . . . well, it's complicated but you never know.

John O'Sullivan (@johnosullivannr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

That's obviously correct whether or not Trump sues for libel. I take that threat more seriously than you do because modern media enable a television program to cross oceans in seconds. But an apology would certainly reduce the damages, perhaps massively.

John O'Sullivan (@johnosullivannr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Why didn't Biden's JD charge Trump with incitement? They knew the charge wouldn't stick because he had urged the crowd to protest peacefully & democratically. Defending a program that manipulated evidence to support the same charge would fail too. Much is muddy; that's clear.

Please hold this debate, please arrange it. At any hour of the day or night. Buy the popcorn. Set the easy chair at a comfortable angle. Arrange the cushions. Pour a stiff Bourbon. And . . .
