Pilgrim Paths aren't just in Spain - Ireland has many pilgrim walks that are much older than the Camino. newstalk.com/news/irelands-

The great annual showing of bluebells and wild garlic now in its full pomp at Knockatrina Wood, #Durrow, Co Laois. It disappears fast, so be sure not to miss out on a visit.

St Finbarr's Pilgrim Path is one of the most isolated & challenging of Ireland's pilgrim paths. It crosses the Shehy Mountains to Gougane Barra & takes 2 days. Next guided walk is June 14 & 15 as part of the Pilgrim Journey, 2025. Info 028 31547 or email: [email protected]

Had a lovely time last evening with Mid-Tipp Hillwalkers on a bluebell & wild garlic walk at Knockatrinna Wood, Durrow Co Laois. This was the first of the Friday evening walks, which have now been running for almost 20 years. Thanks to Brid & Tina for organizing & leading.

Seeking meaning beyond materialism, increasing numbers are returning to walk our ancient pilgrim paths. Writing today in the Irish Examiner about these ancient trails and my new book on the timeless paths walked by our ancestors. irishexaminer.com/lifestyle/outd

Good News! After almost 10 years closed, all is set for the reopening of the shop in the small, rural village of Boherlahan as a Mace store Applegreen service station. Am reliably informed it will be up and running in 2 weeks.

Was glad to walk part of Mayo’s ancient Tóchar Phadraig Pilgrim Path today while discussing the large growth of those walking Ireland’s ancient pilgrim paths with Carole Coleman of RTE radio

Pictured last night with the Friends of Ballintubber Abbey, Co #Mayo who invited me to give an Illustrated talk in Ballintubber Church about Irelands ancient pilgrim paths. Afterwards, was happy to sign copies of my new book for members of the appreciative attendance.

BOOST FOR RURAL IRELAND! Had a show around today of his new convenience store, filling station & off-licence in Boherlahan Co Tipp from owner Liam Maher. Impressed by the business, which looks a winner. Best wishes to Liam & Santina on their venture, which is set to open in May.

Led this group from Mid-Tipp Hillwalkers on the Red Hill Circuit, Cappawhite yesterday, with stunning views over at least 8 counties. Great finger food in Armshaws afterwards. Circuit took about 1 hour and 40 minutes to complete. Highly recommended.

Further deterioration obvious at Kilcooley House, Co Tipp. Some of the roof has now been lost from the great Palladian Mansion of the Barker/Ponsonbys. It actually carries a preservation order, but another part of our Georgian heritage seems about to be lost.

St Declan’s Way now has a lovely new off-road section at Loughkent between Cashel and Cahir, compliments of landowner Clare Ryan. This means that the walk along busy R687 main has been almost eliminated. Another reason to walk St Declan’s Way soon.

Businesses are certainly springing in rural Ireland.Visited another yesterday - Tipperary’s first distillery owned by Jennifer Nickerson at Grange Clonmel. Ireland’s only female distiller, she turns farm grown corn to Irish malt whiskey. Well done, Jennifer. TipperaryBoutiqueDistillery

Had a nice chat on the ancient Tochar Phadraig with Carole Coleman, RTE. We talked about Ireland’s pilgrim paths and it will be broadcast on RTE Radio 1 tomorrow as part of the News at One . Give a listen and then think, perhaps, of walking an Irish path.
