New technologies are often measured against perfection rather than the status quo. At least that has been my experience in financial policy/regulation over the last 15+ years (which started not coincidentally in the midst of a crisis caused by innovative financial engineering).

Pretty important perspective for those in and around innovation policy to understand, in particular the diagnosis for how we got here. I have plenty of quibbles, but descriptively this appears more right than wrong on the available evidence. What now? Good question …

You are being programmed right now. The old computer sits silent in the corner of your room, its black screen reflecting nothing but darkness. You've heard the warnings: artificial intelligence could be dangerous if trained by those with ill intent. But as you scroll through

“Why aren’t you cheering Trump & DOGE? I thought you wanted spending and deficit cuts!" Because I’ve been doing this for 25 years and can’t be tricked by gimmicky nonsense. Trump’s first term added $8 trillion in enacted spending hikes and tax cuts to the deficit - half of

This is important for many reasons. It would be even better if the requirements for receiving such treatment were 100% clear so disposition of customer assets could be made based on facial review of the docs. Not critical for many assets, but for money (eg fintech deposits) it is

If the NFL doesn’t want conspiracy theories about the chiefs and the refs, maybe the refs shouldn’t go out of their way to prove it on the first drive of the Super Bowl.

This is making me a believer in Grok. Gotta be teddy. And knowing to put Andrew Jackson, Lincoln, and a legit college football player in the final 4 is next level.

That’s it. Quitting Odd Lots now that ⁦Joe Weisenthal⁩ dissed board games like Settlers of Catan. I’m calling on ⁦Tracy Alloway⁩ to resign in protest. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/odd…

I can scarcely recall a time in my 15 years in DC when Congress asserted its institutional prerogatives. I didn’t appreciate it fully at the time, but Rick Pildes was writing about this in like 2006. Cc Nicholas Bagley

My concern about the abundance agenda is that it risks becoming politicized. Every governor/mayor, regardless of party, faces challenges related to housing, energy, & transportation. Abundance is being presented as the Dem solution when it should be framed simply as the solution.

Interesting that so much commentary on Abundance is about the commentary. Reviews of reviews. I guess that’s a kind of abundance?

Don’t believe the CFPB’s claims that they want to rewrite the rule. If the court were to accept their legal arguments in this case any meaningful new rule would be foreclosed. It’s an obviously wrong reading of the CFPA, but ya never know with courts these days.
