I finally completed my citation hacking study, which entails both development of a new method to detect potential coercive attempts to manipulate reference lists during peer-review and an estimate of how prevalent it is in MEDLINE. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

One interesting finding (IMHO) was that authors with very high rates of self-citation also had highly distorted non-self citation frequencies, suggesting authors with an exaggerated sense of self-importance are more prone to coerce citations from others during peer-review.
