My partner in the work, Jonathan Foy. We did well today Brother. I look forward to working with you as we support schools and districts in disrupting and dismantling educational structures and systems that lead to inequitable outcomes. #Leading4EquityNYC

#LighterSideOfTheDay Jonathan Foy: "Come on Kenyatte. Please 🙏🏽...I'll give you $5 to work with Paul." Kenyatte Reid: "Are you kidding me? Work with Paul? Nah...I'm good." 😂(This is a joke. This conversation never occurred...I think 🤔)

As a philosophy major I would often hear, “Define your terms” Etymologically, ignorance is “not knowing” so I am going to assume the well-intentioned, good person who wrote this article and those who are going to use it as “gospel” are simply ignorant and “don’t know”. (2/13)

When I talk about “whiteness” this is not about individuals but rather about institutions, structures and systems that continues to maintain & prop up the ways in which certain groups historically benefitted while others did not. (3/13)

In the same manner that when I talk about patriarchy, I am not referring to individual men but I’m referring to systems & structures that benefit ME as a man. We saw this manifest in Alabama this week when a gov. passed the most restrictive abortion law in the country. (4/13)

Many were not surprised to see that it was all men who voted in favor of the law. Women make up 51% of Alabama’s population, but it’s lawmakers are 85% men. There are only 4 women in the 35-seat Alabama Senate. (5/13)

But again, patriarchy (and toxic masculinity) is not about the individual but about the systems and structures that are in place and that is why the governor, who is a woman, could sign off on the law. Folks, we are all breathing the same air and drinking the same water. (6/13)

Ironically, a day after we commemorated 65 years since Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, this article is published. Many people will tweet and retweet about the anniversary while not knowing more than the concept that "separate is not equal." (7/13)

Understand, that “whiteness” is a thread throughout the case. The lead attorney for the plaintiffs, Thurgood Marshall, uses psychologists Kenneth & Mamie Clark’s experiments called “the doll test” to show the psychological effects of segregation on black children (8/13)

If you don’t understand how that’s a manifestation of “whiteness”, then don't get angry...you simply need to do some reading about the history of this country and specifically about the history of Jim Crow. (9/13)

This is why we need to disrupt and dismantle the structures and systems in education that are leading to inequitable outcomes. This is why we need to decolonize education. This is why we need to need to eliminate the school-to-prison-pipeline. (10/13)

This is why we need to be anti-racists and not against just “against racism”. This is why you need to be an accomplice and not an ally. There are people who will read this article in the Post and shake their head. (11/13)

While there are many who will agree with it…I’m not trying to convert them. For those of you who know better, speak your truth. My father would say, “To be ignorant is okay because you just don’t know but to be WILLINGLY ignorant, that’s shameful.” (12/13)

Thank you to the Chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos for being bold & unapologetic. Folks, if you have not read (or re-read) Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Letter From Birmingham Jail" I encourage you to do so. And then read re: the historical context. #WhyWeCantWait (13/13)

My brother, Jonathan Foy and I were keynote speakers at two different high school commencement ceremonies. Came back to office to see that we were basically wearing the same suit. Great minds! But...who wore it better?? And no sympathy points for the sling 😂😂

You’re right, Mr. President - you don’t have a racist bone in your body. You have a racist mind in your head, and a racist heart in your chest. That’s why you violate the rights of children and tell the Congresswoman who represents your home borough, to “go back to my country.”
