Fantastic to have these new guidelines building on the legacy of the 2019 BSG guidelines. So much progress in #IBD in the last 6 years it’s been hard to keep up.

The BSG #IBD guidelines dropped in Gut Journal today, just in time for the first day of #bsglive25. A magnum opus indeed, guided expertly by Gordon Moran & Morris Gordon. Well worth a look if you're interested in IBD: gut.bmj.com/content/74/Sup…

A regrettably skewed presentation of the constitution on BBC Radio 4 Today this morning. The interview with Charlie Falconer and Ilora Finlay began with Anna Foster suggesting to Lord Falconer that "[t]he role of the Lords is to scrutinise and to improve but ultimately to uphold

If you want a precedent for this, see James Wharton's 2014 private member's bill for a referendum on EU membership. It was passed by the House of Commons, but the Lords refused to give it further consideration in committee, effectively killing it. ft.com/content/fbad2f…

I've written to BBC Radio 4 Today with the hope that the role played by the House of Lords will be presented more accurately in future programmes. I wonder what Lord Speaker has to say of this curtailing of the Lords' legitimate constitutional function?

This is the panel that would look at applications for assisted dying. The patient’s family does not have to be involved. #RCPsychIC

This morning Lord Falconer, assisted dying bill sponsor, told BBC R4 it was "correct" that the role of the Lords was to "ultimately uphold something that the directly elected members of the Commons have decided to go ahead with" (in the presenter's words). That's not right. 1/-

Oh ho! I doubt peers will respond very well anyway to Lord Falconer telling them what they can and cannot do. If the Lords cannot say 'no', they wouldn't have second and third reading stages.

Great talk by Prof James East on the new BSG IBD surveillance guidelines at #BSGLIVE25. Key message: focus on what truly impacts outcomes — closing the cancer prevention gap — not Twitter storms over dye vs virtual chromoendoscopy! Guideline: gut.bmj.com/content/early/…

I’ve felt very exposed putting my head above the parapet to raise concerns about the #AssistedSuicide #AssistedDyingBill which I believe will endanger patients & create an expectation that “burdens” should die. I was struck by how many colleagues BSG thanked me.

There's "no reason" why the House of Lords can't force a vote on the assisted dying bill, a Tory peer has said Lord Mark Harper said there are "massive gaps" in the bill that peers won't be afraid to tackle, accusing some MPs of a "dereliction of duty" politicshome.com/news/article/p…

Danny Kruger (@danny__kruger) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This is outrageous and typical of the promoters of the bill. IT IS NOT FOR PEOPE FACING CERTAIN AND SEVERE SUFFERING. There’s nothing about certainty or suffering in the bill. It is for anyone whom 2 docs think has a 51% chance of dying within 6 months - including those who want

I have done ~2000 ERCPs during my career & it is the highest risk procedure that I do. Patients with biliary sepsis can die within 48 hrs so ERCP is frequently life saving. Complications are not uncommon. Absolutely flabbergasting that a nurse endoscopist was performing ERCP 🤯
