Happy to share our new paper: Observational evidence of egg guarding in wild European squid, out today in Ecology and Evolution onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…. In this study, after monitoring egg masses in the wild, evidence of egg guarding in Loligo vulgaris has been observed.

Witnessed the magic of a Northern Lights display in Bergen this September (a rare treat for this time of year). 🌌✨ Auroras are created when charged particles from the sun collide with Earth's atmosphere, producing vibrant waves of light in the sky. Feeling incredibly lucky!

Encounter with a female seahorse (Hippocampus guttulatus) in a lush Zostera bed in the Ría de Vigo! Seagrass meadows are vital for biodiversity. Conserving these habitats is essential to protect incredible species like this one. #MarineConservation #Seahorse #SeagrassMeadows

Exactly 15 years ago, I fulfilled one of every marine biologist’s dreams, traveling to the frozen continent to conduct research in Antarctica. A truly unforgettable experience! #Antarctica

Could octopuses help fight the blue invasion?🦑🔥🦀 In our new paper, we provide the first wild evidence that the common octopus preys on the invasive blue crab. Could this be a natural solution to this marine threat? #InvasiveSpecies #OctopusVsCrab onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10…

Exciting findings from our research in the Cíes Islands! As part of ECOSUMA project, we studied how juvenile octopuses (~35 mm mantle) adapts to sandy seabeds, using bivalve shells for shelter & protection. Results coming soon. Stay tuned!🐙 #Cephalopods #Octopus #MarineScience

A rare sighting in the wild: a pair of octopuses caught in the act of mating at 25m depth in the Cíes Islands. The male (above) uses his specialized arm to transfer spermatophores into the female’s mantle cavity, a process that can last over an hour... 🐙💙#Cephalopods #Octopus

🚨New paper out! For the first time ever, we've tracked a nine-armed #octopus in the wild! Our study reveals how this unique octopus adapted its movements over time, shedding light on neural plasticity and injury recovery. Check it out! mdpi.com/2076-2615/15/7… 📸 Hidde Juijn

📢New paper out in Ecology and Evolution! We still know little about the ecology of juvenile Octopus vulgaris. Our study shows they strategically position bivalve shells for shelter and visual control, demonstrating smart survival strategies in sandy habitats.🐙🐚 doi.org/10.1002/ece3.7…

Millions of years of evolution honed this: dynamic camouflage using chromatophores, iridophores, and papillae. This #octopus is nearly invisible to both predators and prey. #Evolution #Cephalopods #MarineAdaptations

Delighted to see our work on octopus arm regeneration featured in Science Magazine! A bifurcated limb showing signs of autonomous behavior. Another example of octopus complexity. #Cephalopods #Octopus Instituto de Investigacións Mariñas - CSIC 🔗science.org/content/articl…

A special moment yesterday while diving the Mama Viña wreck (30 m deep, Mexican Caribbean): a sea turtle passed by, reminding us of the rich biodiversity these artificial reefs can support. #WreckDiving #ArtificialReefs #MexicanCaribbean
