MAYBE IF I SAY/SCREAM/TWEET/CRY THAT A 14 YEAR OLD MURDERED 4 PEOPLE AND INJURED 9 OTHER PEOPLE IN A SCHOOL TODAY PEOPLE WILL SEE THAT THOSE WORDS SHOULDN’T MAKE SENSE TOGETHER

BmoreEdchat Edifying Teachers Dr. Rudy Ruiz A1: I didn't want to become a teacher until senior year of college. I had environmental pressure from others to pursue other careers, but ultimately decided to choose teaching despite what others said. I have fun and do meaningful work on a daily basis. Best decision #BmoreEdChat

BmoreEdchat Edifying Teachers Dr. Rudy Ruiz A2: Always staying solutions oriented when encountering new challenges, whatever they may be. And being open to trying new things even if it's not what I am used to doing, or what I even necessarily want to do. Staying solutions oriented #BmoreEdChat

BmoreEdchat Edifying Teachers Dr. Rudy Ruiz Q5: I do worry about standards being lowered b/c we need T’s. I also worry about the lip service (pay T’s more, but no $ arrives). I hope to show ppl why I love teaching & hope they fall in love with it as I have. #BmoreEdChat

A2. I’m always learning. I always been trying new things in and out of class I regularly go to conferences to learn how I can improve (see my intro post). And I’m currently a doc student studying issues in comp sci education. Learning is my greatest strength. #BmoreEdChat

A3. The “how” and “why” are always integrated in my class. It is very important to enable and support Ss, truly, unconditionally, and restoratively. Rather than doing things “to” or “for” them. The biggest thing I can teach them is to discover for themselves. #BmoreEdChat

A4. For me, in addition to the educators that came before me and encouraged me, the naysayers also encourage me a bit. I am confident that we can be successful in spite of every obstacle put in our way. “In spite of…” is one of my super powers and I run on it! #BmoreEdChat

#BmoreEdChat would like to thank Edifying Teachers and Dr. Rudy Ruiz for an amazing first chat tonight! Again, look forward to the remaining arc as the fall and winter come. Next week, Brendan McFadden is hosting so come out and support his chat at 8p!

Oof. Tough question. The landscape of education in our country must be allowed to change and evolve. It needs to move on from its past and reflect other degreed and certified professions. But I truly think a better question is “how can we foster a love of learning?” #BmoreEdChat
