Delivered the inaugural address at the 10th World PetroCoal Congress 2020 and shared my views on bringing synergy in petroleum, coal, gas & bio-energy industry and how innovation & technology are playing a frontier role in bringing about a green energy transition.

GoI's approach to energy policies is based on energy access, energy sustainability, energy affordability, energy efficiency and energy security. These five guiding principles dictate our path to ensure energy justice to all our citizens.

Our target to transform India into a $5 trillion economy by 2024 requires major energy transition involving all sources of energy. As we chart a path towards a #NewIndia, it is vital to build a sustainable energy infrastructure that can cater to the needs of all.

India's energy consumption is bound to increase. India is poised to become the leading consumer of energy, surpassing the US and China by next decade or so. India's energy consumption is poised to grow at a CAGR of 4.2% upto 2035.

We are working on an energy model involving a healthy mix of all commercially viable energy sources. The future of India's energy sector will be driven by new technologies and business models. Our oil companies are actively involved in building indigenous R&D capabilities.

As Industrial Revolution 4.0 approaches our doorsteps, digital technology is transforming the energy sector in a profound manner. Advanced analytics, robotics, automation, cloud computing & IoT are making significant impact on the entire value chain of the oil and gas sector.

We have taken path-breaking initiatives to transform India into a gas-based economy. The recently concluded 10th CGD bidding round will help improve access to natural gas to nearly 70% of India’s population in more than 400 districts across the country.

An estimated investment of $60 billion is lined up in development of gas infrastructure, which includes pipelines, CGD and LNG re-gasification terminals. Under PM Shri Narendra Modi ji's leadership, India is working on 'One Nation, One Grid' concept.

India will be spending a massive $100 billion by 2024 in the overall oil and gas sector. This will tranform the energy landscape of the country.

I consider the biggest gamechanger in bringing about greater environmental sustainability & flexibility in India’s energy scenario is through rapid deployment of natural gas. It could serve as a transition fuel as we work towards increasing the share of gas from 6% to 15% by 2030

Our Government continues to follow the mantra of ‘Reform, Perform and Transform' in energy sector through proactive and far-reaching policies and market reforms in E&P, refining, marketing, natural gas, global co-operation and alternative fuels like ethanol and bio-diesel.

India took the lead in the global energy transition by promoting International Solar Alliance and is leading the global movement in embracing renewable energy. We have an ambitious plan to increase renewable energy capacity to over 175 GW by 2022 and up to 450 GW subsequently.

There is a need for petroleum & coal sectors to bring greater cost efficiency and effective risk management by deploying state-of-the-art technologies. Our youth can drive innovation.The industry must create a supporting framework to drive innovation & create new business models.
