Proud to join faculty and elected officials across the city demanding that Penn not arrest or discipline peaceful protestors for Palestinian liberation. We are grateful for the students’ leadership and urge our universities, and our city, to hear their call.

DEI programs were created to give everyone who meet objective standards a fair shot at serving our country. Diversity has changed America for the BETTER. Rolling back these programs and offices with an executive order is completely disgraceful. cnn.com/2025/01/21/pol…

America leaving the WHO is a mistake. When it comes to pandemics, no one is safe until everyone is safe. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

NIH withdrew several funding opportunities related to diversity. They’re not going to review the ones already in, and apparently they’re not going to pay the ones that have just been awarded.

Trump blocks NIH review. I’m on a study section to review cancer grants but received this email today: NIH has paused all communication, as directed by the new administration (e.g. cnn.com/2025/01/21/hea… ), and that apparently includes a pause for all study section meetings

🚨Apparently all NIH Study Sections have been suspended indefinitely. For those who don’t know, this means there won’t be any review of grants submitted to NIH Depending on how long this goes on for, this could lead to an interruption in billions in research funding.

Tomorrow, 42 million Americans might not be able to buy food after Trump shuts down SNAP payments at 5:00 p.m. Students will have to drop out of college if they don't get their student loans.

Finally, someone is reporting on how funding of new NIH grants is effectively frozen due to an administrative block 👇 Grants already submitted cannot be reviewed, and grants already reviewed with excellent scores cannot be funded. This is the opposite of "efficiency".

After 21 years at my dream job, I’m very sad to announce my early retirement from the National Institutes of Health. My life’s work has been to scientifically study how our food environment affects what we eat, and how what we eat affects our physiology. Lately, I’ve focused on
