This was a non-obvious outcome — you could imagine people on glp-1s continued to favor UPFs — but it appears that when reallocating food choices, they preserve whole foods first, and I think this says something important about appetite intuition when cravings are reduced

Finally, we have estimates of the impact of using GLP-1s on food consumption by food types. People using GLP-1s for weight loss or diabetes both end up reducing their spending on chips and savory snacks by a bit over 10%.

“Households with at least one GLP-1 user reduce grocery spending by approximately 6% within six months of adoption, with higher-income households reducing spending by nearly 9%.” 🥗

A fascinating preprint from Cornell Johnson has the first large-scale look at how GLP-1s reshape consumer behavior Americans on GLPs cut grocery spending 6% ($416/year), with snack purchases dropping 11%. It’s not just less appetite —these drugs alter consumption patterns. 👀 1/6

One would normally want to wait longer to evaluate the effects of major policy changes, but the results of the first three days of Congestion Pricing in New York City are so striking that it is already possible to make some (at least preliminary) conclusions. (A 🧵)

Feeling a bit surreal—just heard that JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley issued equity research notes on our paper with Sylvia Hristakeva and Leo Feler. This is probably the closest my research will ever come to influencing markets! 📉📈

The one where two professors (Jean-Pierre Dube and Günter J. Hitsch) take a class from a third (Peter Rossi) and they all write a seminal paper together (not necessarily in that order). Always amazing to hear from the greats in the field how it’s done!

Pepsi facing an FTC lawsuit shows the impact of big-box retailers like Walmart shaping supplier contracts. My colleague’s Sylvia Hristakeva research shows that smaller retailers, without this leverage use product selection and supplier replacement threats as tools to negotiate terms.

Very interesting question Roberto Robatto❗ It's about product market spillovers. I was holding out disseminating this manuscript as it's preliminary, but given many people are talking about the effect of DeepSeek on US tech stocks I just posted this new paper to my website.

This paper is such a beauty—not just in its clear writing and motivation (#goals), but also in how clearly it builds intuition. Have you thought about bowed out budget constraits before? Makes sense!

1/10 In the blockbuster trial U.S.A. v. Google LLC, the D.C. federal court ruled Google violated antitrust law. Our team (Hunt Allcott, J.C. Castillo, M. Gentzkow, L. Musolff & I) investigates why Google has such high market share.

It's release day for How Politicians Polarize! To celebrate, my husband made a board book version so we can teach our 14-month-old about political representation in an age of negative partisanship. Some key findings from the book (in baby-friendly language)🧵
