In recognition of her decades of contributions to the ecological study of the forests and landscapes in Yellowstone National Park, renowned landscape ecologist Monica Turner has been elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences of Arts & Sciences. Congratulations, @MonicaGTurner! news.wisc.edu/monica-turner-…

⭐️NEW OPEN ACCESS⭐️ With Kristin Braziunas and @MonicaGTurner in New Phytologist! Anomalously short-interval fires in subalpine forests alter understory plant communities: doi.org/10.1111/nph.19… 1/7

We've just launched a massive field campaign to better understand the resilience of Europe's forests to disturbance, conducting a coordinated survey of recently disturbed sites in 9 countries. Joint effort of the wonderful folks Ecosystem Dynamics and Forest Management TU Munich, with help of Tomáš Hlásny and JM (Pep) Serra-Diaz.

Interested in the dynamics of subalpine forests? Want to study novel disturbance regimes with particular focus on invasive alien pathogens? Come join us for a PhD Ecosystem Dynamics and Forest Management TU Munich & #BerchtesgadenNP, studying mountain pine dynamics. Full job ad (DE/EN) here: nationalpark-berchtesgaden.bayern.de/service/karrie…

Congrats to #BerchtesgadenNationalPark for winning an award by @BMUV & BundesNaturschutzAmt for ongoing efforts to restore forests. Happy to be part of the team, contributing sci evidence to practical restoration, in the UN Environment Programme decade on ecosystem restoration! UN-Dekade Restoration DE @cedollinger

Will climate change hamper or facilitate forest restoration efforts in C Europe? Really relevant work for conservation managers at #BerchtesgadenNationalPark & beyond. And a wonderful first paper by @cedollinger, out now in Journal of Applied Ecology. Big congrats! doi.org/10.1111/1365-2…

Great work led by Michael Maroschek on disturbances in protected areas of the Alps. Main take-home: Even the extreme events are rather small, compared to other parts of the world. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Out now in Global Change Biology: Projected climate and canopy change lead to thermophilization and homogenization of forest floor vegetation. Great work led by Kristin Braziunas, combining vegetation surveys with landscape simulation modeling onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

We are hiring! Interested in building your own research track post PhD, working on questions of forest management? Excited about working in a diverse and dynamic team? Come join us! We are looking to fill a hard-money position in our team Ecosystem Dynamics and Forest Management TU Munich, see: lss.ls.tum.de/fileadmin/w00b…

Forest recovery success or failure? Remote sensing can help answer this question. Take a look at our new RSE paper: doi.org/10.1016/j.rse.… Big thanks to my amazing co-authors Alba Viana Soto , Ana Stritih , Rupert Seidl and especially @corneliussenf for the great support!

“Forest change in a future with more fire”, a StoryMap created by me and Kristin Braziunas, is now live! In it, we blend audio, video, and photography to tell the story of our research on the effects of more frequent fire in forests of Greater Yellowstone. storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/d8fd0f…
