we went on a recon flight over a nearby #wildfire yesterday. its more than a month old, but still has lots of smouldering hotspots. has lots of potential for our airborne and ground campaigns Kings-NCEO: Earth Obs & Wildfire Research Group Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires š„ NERC NCEO

The Kings-NCEO: Earth Obs & Wildfire Research Group thermal instruments are in the camera hatch on the aircraft! 2 days of installing instruments, computers, and a silly amount of cables. Plane now very full! Hopefully ready for a test flight over a #wildfire in Ontario today. ESA Earth Observation King's Geography

Great day for our team measuring smoke and fire in the Ontario forest with our Canadian counterparts. At the end of the day we found smoke from fires in Quebec seriously degraded air quality far more than the local burns. NERC NCEO Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires š„ King's Geography

We were also flying over the Ontario Forest Fires #AFFES helicopter in the British Antarctic Survey š§ Twin Otter, taking EO (thermal and hyperspectral) and smoke (gas and particulate) measurements of SLK033.

Teak plantation wood being transported in #laos. Next month those distant hils might not even be visible 'cos of extreme amount of airborne particulate matter present during the #burning season - posing significant hazards to health. King's Geography Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires š„ NERC NCEO

Remember our NERC NCEO Airbone Earth Observatory. At #FIA2024 we're at the UK Research and Innovation stand with these wonderful models our team have made representing our recent campaigns collecting multangular observations over fluxtower instrumented croplands and wildfires in Canada. š”

We are in Alberta doing an airborne campaign over fires. Yesterday we flew over one of the many fires burning in Saksatchewan and saw this pyrocumulonimbus forming from the huge smoke plume of a nearby fire, which looked like an explosion! #wildfire King's Geography Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires š„

we have also been flying over some gas flares at the tar sands near fort mcmurray. the scale of this industry is insane! we are investigating how the angle you view the target affects the measurements. this is part of the new ESA Earth Observation FRM4Fire project.

Latest group paper - led by Mark Grosvenor - on measured #airquality impacts of Kalimantans #peatland fires.
