Excited to see this project progress! It will be good to capture efficiency with a modern headquarters/operations complex by consolidating services currently housed in a combination of leased space, remodeled big box store, and 1965 model training academy scattered across KCMO.

It is important to remember where we came from and the impact of certain events. Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion- BLEVE. One of several incidents that helped frame Hazmat responses within the fire service.

Remembering those we lost and continue to lose from September 11, 2001. Our mettle as a nation was tested that day, none more so than those who responded and/or tried to prevent more harm- first responders and civilian alike. My thoughts are with the families and survivors today.

We are still stunned by yesterday’s off duty death of FF Santi. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and friends.

Today we remember Capt Gerald Halloran, Capt James Kilventon, FF Thomas Fry, FF Luther Hurd, FF Robert McKarnin, and FF Michael Oldham. The 1988 Ammonium Nitrate Explosion led to the adoption of the NFPA 704 placarding system and formation of Hazmat 71 in KCMO. Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD)
