RENT STRIKE DAY 31. This month tenants in Kansas City launched strikes in federally-backed properties, targeting landlords AND federal regulator U.S. Federal Housing (FHFA). STRIKE NEWS: In response to ongoing strikes in federally-financed properties, on October 29 the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) offered the Tenant Union Federation a formal engagement with Director Sandra Thompson in Washington DC.

On October 30, TUF shared our terms for bargaining. On October 31, after extensive back-and-forth, FHFA retracted their offer in favor of a one-hour meeting in Kansas City on November 8, without the FHFA Director Sandra Thompson.

If FHFA and Fannie Mae cannot meet these terms by COB today, the bargaining teams may vote to cancel the engagement.  Since this engagement will not include the FHFA Director, this does NOT constitute bargaining. As such, the Kansas City strikes will continue.

The federal regulator is cordially invited to sleepover at Quality Hill Towers or Independence Towers.

On Friday I joined striking tenants from the Quality Hill Towers Tenant Union to call on federal regulators to come see the horrid conditions these tenants are living in. 🧵

On Saturday KC Tenants launched Operation Egg. Union members get eggs sourced from local farmers for $3.50/dozen, or free, via solidarity donations from other members. No mark up, not a fundraiser, just an offering. The tenant union is a vehicle for strategy, politics, and care.
