Today, KALRO Seeds Headquarters in Thika held a graduation ceremony for Horticulture Producer Level 3 students from the Kenya School of Agriculture (KSA)– Thika Campus, who successfully completed their 3-month practical assessment at the institution.

The event was graced by distinguished guests including; KALRO Seeds Director Mr. Robert Musyoki, KSA Deputy Director Madam Pauline Njage and officer in charge KSA Thika campus, Engineer Gordon Nyakiti.

In recognition of their hard work and commitment, the students were awarded certificates of participation by KALRO Seeds.

On May 29, the National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK) hosted over 1,000 vibrant youth for the Youth in Potato Challenge, under the theme “Empowering Generations: Youth Innovations, Sustainability in Potato Farming.”

KALRO was honored to take part in this transformative event! Led by Dr. Lusike Wasilwa, Director of Crop Systems, we showcased how research-driven innovations are unlocking new opportunities for youth in the potato value chain.

At our exhibition stand, young participants explored: Modern seed potato production Value addition techniques Market linkage solutions The energy was high, This growing passion for agribusiness is proof that the future of food is in innovative, youthful hands.

KALRO’s "Learn and Plant"initiative, led by Kenneth Monjero, Coordinator KALRO Science Centre Kenya, is actively engaging high school students in the potato value chain.

The initiative aims at igniting curiosity and deepen understanding among young learners by exposing them to various aspects of modern potato production and providing hands-on experience in breeding, pest and disease management, tissue culture, and farm management.

Through this program, KALRO is cultivating future agripreneurs and researchersequipped to tackle food security challenges with modern agricultural knowledge.
