Latest policy briefing from the Benefit Changes and Larger Families project reports on interviews conducted Nov 23-Jan 24. Shows going without on a daily basis has "just become the normal thing now". Both the two-child limit and the benefit cap need to go. largerfamilies.study/publications/c…

My book shows the harm the UC conditionality regime causes mothers and their children. Despite the evidence here and elsewhere on conditionality and sanctions, requirements are getting more stringent. Lead carers of 3-12 year olds now required to job search for 30 hours/week.

'This is a budget for higher earners – not people like me.. I would much rather see more support provided for public services, on which many people like me and my children are dependent.' Read Aurora from Changing Realities reaction to #Budget2024 theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Report on the 2-child limit from Martin O'Neill concludes: "The policy is unfair in multiple dimensions, while also being a policy that has manifestly failed even on the terms by which it is supposedly justified, and carries with it a range of further negative consequences."

We worked with the Observer to highlight shocking new stats on the 2-child limit. This policy is pushing the most vulnerable families into poverty 20% of households affected have at least 1 disabled child, and 25% of all households are single-parents with a child under 3.

Benefit capped households won't see a penny more from today's benefit uprating. New briefing out today from Nuffield Foundation-funded Benefit Changes and Larger Families project shows the harms the cap causes and explains why families can't escape the cap. largerfamilies.study/publications/n…

My latest article shows that the Universal Credit conditionality regime harms mothers' employment prospects and caring responsibilities regardless of social class, but sometimes the negative effects are exacerbated for working class mothers cambridge.org/core/journals/…

New article with Jamie Redman, Kitty Stewart & Prof Ruth Patrick. The 2 child limit and benefit cap are causing children great harm in the here & now and are highly likely to have life long negative impacts. Strong evidence for why both policies need to go. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

🧵With party conferences & the budget approaching, many of us will be continuing to call for an end to the two-child limit. Alongside this call, more needs to be done to understand differences in support to children within the UK - a focus of 🔥 our new research 🔥
