The TX taxpayer-funded voucher will mostly go to families w/kids already in private school.  In fact, TX taxpayers will be on the hook for the private school tuition of EVERY STUDENT ALREADY IN PRIVATE SCHOOL--leaving 5.5 million kids in neighborhood schools w/less $.

Greg Abbott Let’s face it: Governor Abbott has manufactured a “demand for school choice.” ❌ He claims parents don’t have choice—they do. ❌ He says vouchers give parents the power—but in reality, schools will choose who gets in. ❌ He says it’s for low-income families—but 75% of vouchers

Vouchers passed with only two Republicans — Dade Phelan and Gary VanDeaver — voting against. The rest of the rural Rs compromised. Which I get, although I wouldn’t have made the same decisions. Policy making is not always principle. It starts out that way but in the end

🚨Under the deceptive A-F ratings released by Greg Abbott‘s Agency the # of failing TX schools went ⬆️ 240% in 1 yr. Courts had blocked these grades for being unjust, but the all-Abbott appointed 15th Court reversed. It’s rigged from top to bottom.

Vouchers are about to be signed into law & HB2 which was the promised funding and trade by #txlege with struggling districts sits in the Senate waiting and has not moved. The “Texas Two step” is turning into the “Texas sidestep”.

❌ Any legislator claiming to be conservative while voting yes on S62 clearly doesn’t understand conservatism. A government-funded, government-regulated school choice program is not conservative. It’s government expansion, plain and simple. If the Supreme Court doesn’t strike

Texans were told the voucher bill and public education funding would move in tandem. One was signed on Saturday and one has been sitting in the education committee since 4/23. When are 5.5 million kids going to got their funding?

Where are we today? Where is the funding for 5.5 million Texas kids? Texans were told they were getting record breaking funding for education and they got 1B in vouchers that might help 100,000. Why are the rest left out? Fulfill your promise and do your duty. Dan Patrick
