Remember this picture every single time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam." This was #Amsterdam in the 1970s, via Urban Cycling Institute 🚲 . The cities we admire made better choices regarding cars, and are still making them today. Better choices instead of excuses.

Symptoms of beech leaf disease on new leaves of copper beech 🍂 (Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea') and American beech 🍃 (Fagus grandifolia). Both develop the interveinal banding pattern typical for bld. Thanks @mirzafaisalqase for luring me to take a look at the copper beech 🌳

Once talked to someone who told they went to Cornell, and when I did not go like "wow OMG ..!", but rather "OK great", they went "usually people are more impressed" 🤷‍♀️ 🤣

Perfect early fall 🍂🍁 weather for canopy photography to estimate #urban #tree #health in #newhaven. Maple dieback is common in urban heat islands, like with this Norway maple in the photo. CAES research with Dr. Faisal Qaseem.

Saddleback caterpillar (Acharia stimulea) feeding on a roadside thicket of Norway maples in Hamden CT. The insect is not a significant defoliator, but is a medically significant venomous urticating caterpillar. Even light contact with the spines burns like nettles. Do not touch!
