Congratulations to dear friend and inspiration Aubert de Villaine on his recent and well-earned retirement. Few people have had as much impact on wine as Aubert and we wish him the best in this next chapter! 📷 by Gail Skoff

From a hot, dry vintage, this 2007 #Sesti #Brunello #Phenomena was, well, phenomenal. Smooth & structured, it started off w/ tar & underbrush but later revealed layers of depth, showing dried cherry, licorice, flinty mineral, incense & marzipan. Silky tannins, surprisingly fresh

Shrimp and grits: Génial! Old-timers will recall In 1983 I proposed a chilled lamb salad with linden leaves to go with the #Condrieu Kermit sold at the time. _Inspiring Thirst_ p 101.

Barolo and ceviche—decidedly not the best pairing. But when a vignaiola from Piemonte comes to California, you take her out for Mexican food! 📷 of Giulia Negri: shop.kermitlynch.com/collection/giu…

A very nice pour for a Monday evening! My wife’s birthday and she encouraged me to open something that would go with the meal I’m picking up from Cafe Escadrille. Figure this white Burgundy should be good with the grilled swordfish! #wineoclock #winepairing

Few things in life are as satisfying and refreshing as a bracing glass of this benchmark southern rosé—a lesson we happily learn again and again, vintage after vintage. shop.kermitlynch.com/product/detail…

Thanks to Kermit Lynch Wine, we watched BIG NIGHT (1996) with a bottle of red and pasta. So much time was spent with the food and long shots that you realize what we were all missing in modern cinema. It was fun.

On our last NYC trip, the sommelier The Modern introduced me to possibly THE best rosé I’ve ever tasted: the 2020 Métisse from Maxime Magnon (via Kermit Lynch Wine ). Gorgeous ruby color, bone dry, with strong stone-fruit flavors. A pain to find but worth it. cc James Walker
