Forever curious. Artist, writer, photographer, reader, runner, nerd. Enchanted by the natural world, angered by our treatment of it. Always happier outside.

This thing was awesome. I didn't photograph the beginning (when to my eyes it was a bright white, fast moving ribbon of light reaching east to west) but it dropped some green slashes (/) then turned bright pink. I'm thinking it was STEVE. Looking S.E. 21.50-22.15, 50°N, Devon, UK

Things have just got a lot more difficult . Here’s what I think . I had no control over what just happened . None . But I do have control over how I will react to it . And I am not going to give up on the beautiful and the good , the grip on my dreams just got tighter .

Beautiful cycle home - like cycling through a John Atkinson Grimshaw painting (minus the cobblestones.) Venus setting in one direction, while Jupiter rose over a river of mist. And all the while, I was watched by the Moon, who highlighted bat’s wings, and a black cat’s whiskers.

IMPORTANT The campaign for a GCSE in Natural History has stalled. Labour see it as a "Conservative initiative" and won't progress it. It is not a political football, every child has the right to learn about the wonder of the natural world. Plse ask you MP to lobby for it now. 🙏

We have lift off! A snake-like filament is launching while passing through the Earth-strike zone! This means we likely have an Earth-directed #solarstorm, finally. Impact possible by midday December 18. Waiting for coronagraph imagery for a better estimate for prediction models.

I've had a little flurry of orders for mini prints. These two are proving the most popular. The first is called 'Starlit Path' and the second is 'Swirling Rooks'. If you're one of the people who's ordered from my online shop, thank you so much! 👀 kerrieanngardner.co.uk/product-catego…

Solstice sundown. Longer days are on their way. The birds, of course, know this very well. Already, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Robin, Dunnock, Treecreeper, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Collard Dove and Goldcrest are singing. Woodpecker is drumming, and Raven sings in his own way, too.

If anyone hears power lines chirping/singing under the aurora tonight, feel free to record the sound and send it to me! The attached video was just sent to me by my roommate in North Pole, Alaska this morning, and you can hear the power lines going nuts!

Cycling home last night, the Moon, Venus and Saturn behind me, with Jupiter and Mars ahead. I could smell frost forming around me, and delighted in being cold. I so prefer this weather to endless days of tepid grey.

I was about to walk past this old, algae covered door when I realised that it’s been decorated, quite beautifully, by the mouths of feeding gastropods who’ve slowly munched their way across it. 🐌
