Hopefully food for thought ā¬‡ļø! I also provided some context for what defence cooperation is, and isn’t, here: x.com/kim_hdarragh/s…

I’m not sure this parade projects the image some hope it will. Interesting to see Tim Kennedy serving as a face of it; he’s been quite ostracised from various military and veteran communities, which have accused him of embellishing his service.

I’ll admit I’ve got mixed feelings about how we should respond to developments in the US. But this is worth reading. (Those Aussies who’ve spent time in the US system at the strategic level will relate to the cringe at some of our advocacy, and being called out for it).

The US Army parade was embarrassing for a lot of reasons. But I didn’t expect the volume of armchair warriors pointing at Army Rangers doing lame drill and telling the world with all the confidence of a toddler that this means they don’t have unit cohesion or military capability.

What lessons should Australia learn from India’s recent military clash with Pakistan? I think there are a few. If you’re in Hobart on 26 June, hope you can join! With thanks to Australian Institute of International Affairs Tasmania for hosting. aiiatas.glueup.com/event/26-june-…

This article will be under-appreciated, as most of these are, generally by people who’ve not invested in learning a language and applying it to foreign affairs analysis. We need to stop judging the value of language learning in narrow or superficial terms. This stuff matters.

My new piece, and first time writing for The Atlantic , in which I discuss Secretary Hegseth's narrow and misguided view of warrior culture - "America’s military remains at its most effective when inspired to maintain both its professionalism and its warrior culture."
