In a ranking of American universities by the number of foreign students, FIVE in the top ten are PUBLIC universities. My employer is #4, together with UCSD, Berkeley, Purdue and Illinois. Winter is here.

The Supreme Court in Argentina upheld the sentence convicting Mrs Kirchner. This merits a long post, but I will keep it short: A NEW HOPE.

The narrative linking Japan’s stagnation since 1991 to its financial crisis is largely a myth, more recently discussed in this episode of Dwarkesh Podcast. Japan’s growth performance is almost entirely explained by poor demographics. See Table 1 of my paper with Gustavo Ventura

Jesus JesĂșs FernĂĄndez-Villaverde spells out implications of our joint paper with Wen Yao quite clearly and much more eloquently than I could. Japan is no economic disaster in terms of growth rates, after properly accounting for demographics. It is easy.

Is there any other country that included something akin to the Pursuit of Happiness in its founding documents? I still find this amazing.

Great post by JesĂșs FernĂĄndez-Villaverde Fertility is declining very fast in Latin America. By now, all big countries in LATAM have fertility rates (TFR) below replacement. This surely implies that Americas as a whole are below replacement. A new world, indeed.
