The first all-weather lifeboat station in the RNLI have received their new Helly Hansen kit. Kirkwall Lifeboat is one of three lifeboat station situated on the isle of Orkney and took charge of their lifesaving kit earlier this week; rnli.info/LH64ew

Kirkwall lifeboat crew were paged today and placed on Immediate Readiness as an incoming flight to Kirkwall airport had developed some technical problems, the crew mustered and made the lifeboat ready for sea when they were informed by Shetland Coastguard to stand down.

Kirkwall lifeboat this morning alongside the old lifeboat slip in Stronsay, probably the first time in nearly 50 years there has been a lifeboat so close alongside after the Stronsay station was closed in the early seventies.

Kirkwall lifeboat was requested to launch this morning to a local creel boat aground just off Egilsay Pier, as the lifeboat arrived the vessel floated off under her own power, once it was confirmed there was no damage and the crew were all ok the Lifeboat returned to Kirkwall.

Kirkwall lifeboat was launched at 0158hrs this morning at the request of Shetland Coastguard and Police Scotland to help search for a missing person. After searching for an hour the casualty who had entered the water earlier was located ashore safe and well.

Kirkwall Lifeboat was Requested to Launch this morning at 11:19 for medical evacuation from Westray, once the Lifeboat arrived at Rapness the 2 patients were transferred to the Lifeboat. Once back in Kirkwall the Ambulance crew transferred the patients onwards to the hospital.
