There’s a perfectly easy solution to this. If upon the death of a farmer/testator a beneficiary sells the land, pay IH tax on the receipts - including if years’ later. If the beneficiary keeps on farming, don’t. This addresses the problem of rich people buying land to avoid tax

Kirstie Allsopp Exactly— but the Sooner you pay that Mortgage off — Thats Freedom & overpaying even a little can Take years off it — & ℹ know there’s still Bills & maintenance etc but once you own it it’s yours forever. Proudest moment for a lot of people is when they pay it off Xx

Kirstie Allsopp Two sons. Always said the roof over your head is more important than anything. Both drive rubbish cars but are home owner; aged 22 & 24. And yes they did it themselves.

Politicians have too much skin in the game, and honesty is not their forte. We need people involved in housing for the long term, the really long term, not 10 years, not 25 years, we need those who can look at it with a 100 year view point.

Why is no one in Government listening to the desperate situation caused by U.K. Lenders choosing to ignore the RICS guidelines on the EWS1 form. People are losing their homes NatWest TSB Halifax This a HUGE issue BBC News (UK)

If you own a flat, if you have a mortgage you need to know this happening. Flats are being rendered WORTHLESS by a lack of communication between RICS, UK Lenders and our government.

This makes very sober reading, although sad it doesn’t come as a shock. It’s all very well for Ed Miliband to go around saying all the new builds need to have solar panels but what about the government looking into the quality of new builds?

Housing impacts EVERYTHING - health, mental health, education, relationships, employment & on & on. Without secure, safe housing you’re far less likely to get on in life. Why is being housing minister not up there with Health, Education or Home Secretary?

Every word 💯. Nothing else matters more. We can have reinvigorated economy, the best pandemic plans, the biggest armoured vehicles, 12 nuclear subs, a functioning NHS, amazing teachers …and none of it will matter a jot BECAUSE OF THIS

Kirstie Allsopp Mary Kapadia Ed Miliband What this must do is encourage the development of roofing that integrates solar panels in an elegant way. Sure architects would agree. Why design an attractive property if you’re going to have to put ugly solar panels on the roof?

This kind of thing is really worrying. We need to see good, independent data on Solar Panels before they a made mandatory for new builds.

Please share… Let’s get as many people on to farms tomorrow for “Open Farm Sunday” It’s a great way for the public to see what goes in to producing what we all eat 3 times a day. If you can’t get to a farm. Comment on my posts and ask questions. I’ll always try answer them.

I’m not sure I’ve ever criticised the West Wing, certainly not on Twitter, but they do get almost everything related to the UK wrong, Islay pronounced Is-slay, for example, and John Marlbrough is an absurd character. There, I did it, otherwise everything is utterly perfect.
