🚨 We’re shocked and disappointed. The UK government has pushed through HUGE cuts to Universal Credit for disabled people applying in the future. These cuts will be devastating. They risk pushing even more disabled people to food banks.

Disability Cuts Bill passed tonight. Government attacking older people with the winter fuel cut, attacking children in poverty by keeping the two child cap and attacking disabled people by cutting vital supports.

I’m ashamed to live in a country that just passed a welfare bill condemning hundreds of thousands to deeper poverty and despair. I’m ashamed of a Labour government that refused to work WITH disabled people to build a benefits system based on dignity, not punishment. #BinUCBill

We won’t stop fighting.

🚨On Monday, the UN warned that Labour’s disability cuts bill “will deepen the signs of regression” in the rights of those with disabilities. 🥀 On Wednesday, Scottish Labour MPs lined up to vote it through. Shameful.

Over a decade ago, I was proud to introduce the bill that gave 16 and 17-year-olds the vote in Scottish elections. Young people here have a stake in shaping our future, and it made Scotland’s democracy stronger. The UK is finally catching up - this change is long overdue.

You cannot "incentivise" work for people who cannot work. You cannot punish people into work if they can't work.
