Kissing a young baby can put them at risk of serious infection. Our survey of 2,300 new and expectant parents showed more than half are unaware of this. Young babies have immature immune systems so are extremely vulnerable to infection. Press release here: bit.ly/46UwD83

1 in 3 parents wouldn’t ask people to wash their hands before letting them hold their new baby. But infections that are considered mild (e.g. cold sore virus) can be life-threatening to babies. All visitors should avoid kissing young babies & wash their hands before touching.

If you’re visiting a new baby (i.e. they’re not part of your household), always wash your hands before touching and don’t kiss them on the face. It’s also important not to visit at all if you’re ill or have been recently. Watch our brand-new animation on infection prevention here
