I am otw to a writing retreat with 5 other academics, across fields, planned by my husband and I. We recognized we never fully enjoy Holidays because of the “back-log” of writing we enter Winter with so we planned this to clear our plate. Will report back on how it goes.

I never thought I would admit this, but scientific writing is becoming second nature now. I’ve always preferred more poetic narrative writing instead.

Last week was one of the worst professional weeks I’ve ever had. So, I was frozen and unproductive. My lab family held me down in many ways. My lab manager took things off my plate; Postdocs helped see a grant to the finish line. Lab of Kizzmekia Corbett (@kizzyphd) is family. Thank God for that.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative meeting has unlocked a new scientific meeting code: everyone met at the gym 1 hour before breakfast. It’s soooo motivating and fun! Today, we try to take a picture BEFORE we sweat.

Things I count on: - My grandma to pray for me. - My mom to be optimistic for me. - My dad to “ride at dawn” for me. Over time, I’ve learned when each team player I need most. Now, in this moment, I need my daddy.
