Don’t be the player who’s “too good/too cool” to work on your skills before or after practice. That’s when you should be working on your game individually. If you’re not, you can bet someone else is. You won’t have to worry about it on game day. Those who work will pass you by!

If you do it right, coaching is much more than any sport. When you become your players’ mentor, teach them life lessons, give advice through the ups & downs, you develop more than a 4 year relationship. It becomes a lifelong one. What an incredible responsibility & a true gift!

Don’t let outcomes cloud your vision when it comes to growth. Growth is an ongoing process. Teams that become stagnant can win all season & lose when it counts. Your success hinges on continuous growth. Learn, practice, work toward being the best you can be in every circumstance!

You won’t like it sometimes, but you find out that the people in your life who don’t allow you to take shortcuts or make excuses & hold you accountable, are the people who care for you the most. It’s not personal. It’s all about teaching you, preparing you & helping you improve!

During practice, selfless teammates will momentarily put aside their friendships & compete against each other because they care about the team’s success in competition! Practice the way you play! It’s never personal. It’s just necessary for real preparation. Competing IS caring!

Work hard, have fun, be a good person, add value, and leave the team better than you found it. Love what you do, love who you do it with, and bring joy every day. Have grit and a growth mindset. Believe in yourself. Sports and life lessons for any athlete, coach or parent.

PARENTS - You can buy your kids a phone; pay for college, a car. You can buy sporting equipment but you can’t buy their success. If they want it, they have to earn it. Success isn’t easy. The “price” comes with a lot of extra work, trials & failure.
