Our new research just published in NatureClimate finds that the northern peatland carbon sink is being burned up by wildfire and degradation. Read along for some highlights and find the full paper here: go.nature.com/43Q7U3Z 1/n

Science is hard. Good research makes you feel stupid. You're inadequate for the task at hand. How else would it be? You're pushing the boundaries of knowledge. Get used to it. This process is immensely rewarding.

No reward - no duties.  75% of respondents have reduced the hours spent on academic duties since 2020 (Nature polls). Mostly due to burnout and unwillingness to work for free. This included attending conferences, peer reviewing manuscripts and grant proposals, committees,

Every day I am in awe of international students. Doing a PhD in your native language and home country is hard. Doing it in a non-native language, in a different country and different culture is so much harder. You are not stupid. You are legends.

Boreal fires can smolder underground for months or longer, even through the winter. These fires release greenhouse gases and can reignite causing more surface burning the next fire season. Here we discuss the rise of zombie fires. W/ Dr. Jennifer Baltzer theconversation.com/zombie-fires-a…

Excited to share that our global wetland methane upscaling paper and dataset is now published in AGU Advances and summarized in AGU's Eos! Many thanks to the FLUXNET-CH4 data contributors and many scientific collaborators on this project. Too many to name here! #upch4
