Yogesh Yogesh Kulathu gave a great talk on branched ubiquitin chains introduced by John Christianson Lab at the Oxford Ubiquitin Club. It seems the p97 system is again the main player in the story 😊.

It is also great to see the current (Pauline) and ex-Ramadan lab members (Marta, Shudong John) attending one of the most prestigious conferences in Genome Stability in 2023 (Fusion, Dubrovnik, Croatia) and they all get along very well.

How does the SPRTN protease recognise DNA-protein crosslinks? This has now been resolved in our manuscript: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… The ubiquitin chains are the central regulators of SPRTN protease specificity and enzymatic activity towards DNA-protein crosslinks.
