(1/8) Harvard has more than 5,700 post-docs in the sciences, engineering, and health, and more across other disciplines. In general, about half are international researchers bringing their talents here. Here’s what *you* can do to help retain top research talent in our country.

Always worth looking at the business model. I was once advising a non-profit where leadership was constantly frazzled. I looked at the books. They were generating lots of revenue, but they had priced their core product at cost. So growth actually set them back.

I am alarmed by the proposed cuts to U.S. funding for basic research, and the impact this would have for U.S. competitiveness in AI and other areas. Funding research that is openly shared benefits the whole world, but the nation it benefits most is the one where the research is

Super excited about Matt joining the team, and the work he will be doing with us. His thesis: alongside much-needed land use reform, we need to be betting on a new generation of ventures that leverage data, R&D, and new business models to increase housing supply.

Thanks for having me on! Some stuff we covered: - Bell Labs-style systems engineers in new science orgs - How I'd give away $100M, inspired by early Rockefeller Foundation - BBNs at early ARPA, and why I joined RenPhil to build more of them - & tons of R&D history anecdotes

Great deep-dive into Eric Gilliam and his work on taking lessons from the past to design the R&D ecosystems of the future. And you’ll also see why he was an obvious hire for our Renaissance Philanthropy team.

We would love your help on this - we need more AI evals and benchmarks in domains relevant to economic and social mobility, like career navigation.

Super excited to have Lucia Asanache join our team, and help tell our story. I want our work to not only inspire, but also serve as an open notebook for ambitious problem-solving.

I came to the US on an F-1 student visa. Since then, I’ve built a company worth over $20 billion—headquartered in Pennsylvania. Student visas are one of America’s greatest talent funnels. Let’s not close the door behind us.
