That's right: I took my custom-made Japanese manhole cover patches (that I had printed in the US) and brought them all the way to Osaka, Japan, to set them on some of the actual manhole covers. All in all, I think I did a decent job of replicating the originals. #99piCity

"Spolia (Latin for 'spoils') are stones [or other materials] taken from an old structure and repurposed for new construction or decorative purposes." Here, the reused elements are purely functional -- soon to be plastered over. (See also: The 99% Invisible City #99pi)
