A randomized controlled trial (N=341,830) conducted by IPA, @mushfiq_econ, Jason Abaluck, doctors and mask engineers from Stanford Medicine with Bangladesh health researchers and officials increased mask wearing by a lot, and the behavior maintained after the intervention ended

This is arguably the most important single piece of epidemiological research of the entire pandemic. A MASSIVE randomized trial launched a pro-mask campaign in some Bangladeshi villages, but not others. The result: masking villages got less COVID. poverty-action.org/sites/default/…

Study in Bangladesh showed program encouraging mask-wearing increased usage 28% & that group saw a 9.3% reduction of #Covid19. On “Babbage”, Laura Kwong, a public-health researcher at UC Berkeley, talks to Kenneth Cukier about how the largest-ever investigation of mask efficacy, conducted in Bangladesh, found simple ways to encourage people to mask up econ.st/3k8qj7x

Very grateful to all the study participants in Bangladesh, the other PIs @mushfiq_econ Ashley Styczynski , and all the hard-working staff at Innovations for Poverty Action as well as gov of BD partners. Wear a surgical, KF94, KN95, or N95 mask if you can!

Masks work to prevent COVID. It is just as important as ever to wear a good mask (surgical, KF94, KN95, N95). Glad to work with Innovations for Poverty Action Jason Abaluck @mushfiq_econ Ashley Styczynski and Steve Luby for these solid research findings, published today science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

From a nerdy person I admire Emily S Gurley "I treat Twitter like wastewater surveillance. Some bits are interesting, but most of it you want to flow by."
