Details on FTA coming in. ✔️Different emphases in announcements: 🇮🇳 pib.gov.in/PressReleasePa… 🇬🇧 gov.uk/government/new… ✔️Impressive tariff cuts. ✔️Also notable: "India’s first-ever FTA chapters on anti-corruption, consumer protection, labour rights, gender, and development"!

FTA’s cumulative impact will likely be greater for UK exports than Indian exports, but India is expected to maintain a sizable trade surplus with the UK. Note: UK ran an £8.4 billion annual trade deficit with India across goods and services in 2024. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/681384a7…

Most reports seem driven more by motive than verifiable facts - understandable in a fast-moving situation. Clarity now depends on a detailed government briefing, ideally with clear evidence, on the damage in Kashmir and beyond. That will help set the record straight.

A back-of-the-envelope calculation shows it's still worthwhile to make iPhones in India. A 25% tariff isn’t enough to change that. Apple is planning for the next 20 years, not just the next 3.

If making smartphones is “conforming to comparative advantage,” then making semiconductors is “defying it” - a shift made possible by India’s targeted industrial policies. Reminds me of Chang and Lin’s 2009 paper: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…

Powering through 🚀 Vietnam has left the CLMV behind and firmly joined the VIP group in terms of income. One of the most remarkable development stories of the 21st century.

I had a wonderful discussion on Korea🇰🇷–India🇮🇳 maritime cooperation with the brilliant minds at National Maritime Foundation. We explored the importance of a multi-faceted partnership for sustainable and inclusive maritime development. Thank you for the opportunity to engage!

Following the recent meeting between President Lee and PM Modi in Canada, Korea will dispatch a special envoy, former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, next week to lay the groundwork for Korea–India cooperation over the next five years. en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN202507…

Korea–India economic relationship is ready for lift-off. Narendra Modi highlighted exciting opportunities between 🇰🇷🇮🇳: 💡 In June: commerce, investment, technology, green hydrogen, and shipbuilding. 💡In July: innovation, defence, shipbuilding (AGAIN!), and skilled mobility.

The most comprehensive report to date on India’s shipbuilding planning. Given the rapid pace of infra dev over the past decade, these land parcels are likely to be connected and investment-ready in the near future. (abhishek law Could you please help me get the original documents?)
