🇨🇩 - Violent combat has broken out between the Congolese army and the M23 armed group in eastern #DRCongo despite a peace treaty. Kinshasa and the M23 signed a declaration of principles, in which they committed to a permanent ceasefire. Emmet Livingstone has more ⤵️

New Human Rights Watch report documents summary executions of 140+ civilians by the #Rwanda‑backed #M23 in 14 villages/farmlands in eastern #DRCongo in July 2025. Laws of war remain binding, even during peace negotiations. Those responsible should be brought to justice. hrw.org/news/2025/08/2…

Fiber-optic FPVs apparently now being used by “M23” in South Kivu. Implies that FARDC has electronic warfare equipment to jam regular FPVs, which would be a first for Congo’s military.

Rwanda is basically ignoring the Trump-promoted peace process, signing a few meaningless vague statements while it pushes ahead with entrenching its occupation of eastern Congo:

There's an entire Wikipedia page about the purported massacre of 70 Christians in Kasanga, Lubero, by ISCAP (ADF) that never actually happened. The entire story was based on a single unconfirmed early report, which was then refuted by numerous local authorities.

AAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHHH This is a good explainer, which got nowhere near the media attention. Includes refutation from local pastors, police and traditional authorities who visited the church where the killings purportedly took place, all of whom said it didn't happen. actualite.cd/2025/02/27/rdc…

Switzerland's Attorney General ordered Glencore to pay $150m in damages to Congo last year, after a mining bribery probe. Absurdly, Congo can't claim the money because it didn't cooperate with the investigation, and under Swiss law, this means the money can't be disbursed.
